Dynasty USA at the PASIC Convention 2005 Dynasty introduced at this convention its newest instrument in the melodic percussion family, and announced their entry into the world of artist level marimbas. The Mark Ford (University of North Texas and Immediate Past President of PAS) Signature marimba was displayed for the very first time. This 5 octave rosewood world class instrument received many favorable reviews from the world's premier marimba players and teachers. We knew this new instrument would be a hit, but the quality and the workmanship....and the reception....was a pleasant surprise. There are many unique features on this marimba, which is perfect for the professional marimbist, college studios and serious players of the marimba. Also on display was a 16x36" Dynasty Bass Drum with the new Dynasty Suspended Bass Drum Stand. This ultra-heavy duty stand completely isolates the bass drum from the stand with rubber suspension cords, and the full ring and drum are easily height adjustable...a real plus for multiple percussion work in the pit. This is the most heavy duty stand available on the market, yet is surprisingly affordable. All of our Dynasty customers are going to be very interested in this new stand. The new Dynasty Professional Chimes, with a new sleek and slender chime tube cap. As you can see from the picture, the profile of the chime tube is different, yet this new cap is much more durable and reliable than the usual design. Plans are for this chime set to be offered in chrome plated finish very soon, also. Finally the University of North Texas Drum Line was there with Paul and Sandi Rennick. They were simply incredible at the PASIC Marching Percussion Festival. Enjoy the photos! 10.13.2005
Southern Aurora at DCUK Finals Southern Aurora were first on in finals and their enthusiastic and vocal following set the atmosphere. Their show is entitled ‘Means of Access’ and I understand that it was composed by the staff. The product is dark, complex and extremely sophisticated and is very stylistic in terms of the trademark sound and look the corps created in the past. The music is challenging yet always gripping. Powerful one moment yet extremely haunting or tender the next. Whilst the show is very challenging, the viewer is drawn into it with their focus being directed to the right place at the right time as a result of intelligent and gripping show design combined with extreme performance levels. Since their 2002 Open Class championship year, Southern Aurora undertook a rebuilding program which makes the achievements of the 2005 staff and members all the more unbelievable. These guys are well on the way to becoming a drum corps powerhouse once again…. Correction: they ARE a drum corps powerhouse! 09.30.2005
2005 DCA Summer Here are a few pictures from this past summer on the DCA tour. I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed being with you all!! 08.18.2005

Mark Ford at the Belgium Marimba Academy Dynasty USA artist and Coordinator of Percussion at the University of North Texas, Mark Ford was a guest artist for the Belgium Marimba Academy hosted by Ludwig Albert in Sint-Truiden, Belgium from July 23-29, 2005. Dynasty USA at the World Music Contest, Kerkrade, NL On July 6-12, 2005 Dynasty USA attended the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Netherlands. The WMC is held once every 4 years and the contest takes the entire month of July to complete. Bands from all over the world travel to the WMC in Kerkrade to complete and for many of these groups WMC is the TRUE World Championship of Marching, Concert and Jazz Band. Dynasty USA had many groups competing in the WMC on the first weekend. The Blue Devils from Concord, CA was part of the WMC Opening Ceremonies and they really wowed the crowd of well over 15,000 people gathered for the downtown parade and concert. On the Saturday and Sunday of the first WMC weekend the following groups were in competition......... Dynasty USA and Glassmen team up for EnterTRAINment Clinic! On June 18, 2005 Dynasty USA and the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps teamed up for the first EnterTRAINment clinic of the 2005 season. Held at Toledo's "The Glass Bowl" the clinic attracted some 500 people including students, band directors and alumni. Members of the Glassmen staff gave a hands on clinic within their own sections where students were allowed to participate along side of members of the 2005 Glassmen. They were allowed a look into the wonderful world of drum corps from a performers stand point. Afterwards the full corps did an ensemble rehearsal so that students and band directors could see how such a large group rehearses efficiently. It was quite a display by the Glassmen, its staff and members. It was obvious that all of the participants took something away from that clinic that they will be able to use forever. Dynasty USA would like to thank all the members, staff and support people of the Glassmen for a wonderful clinic and then a delicious cook out afterwards just before the show. 06.07.2005

Bill Bachman's Trip to Peru Greetings! As many of you know, I recently went on a mission trip to Comas Peru with a group of 19 from Fellowship Bible Church here in Nashville.I've been back for a week now and life is pretty much back to normal. There is really too much to tell about all that happened on the trip, but here's some of the story: Comas Peru is a suburb of Lima on the west coast of South America. There it hardly ever rains so there is virtually no grass which leaves us with dust, and a lot of it. There are also few government regulations on sanitation and emissions, which leaves it on the dirty, smelly, and smoggy side of things. My church here in Nashville has partnered with the Christian Alliance church in Comas so we were down there to help their church grow and generally sharpen each other. My specific role on this trip was to play music, work construction, and video everything (I'll have pictures soon coming from a friend who was along with us). It was also fun for me to speak Spanish as much as possible, everyone on both sides of the language barrier got a kick out of that. (I'm admittedly a spanglish hacker.) The worship team that I play with regularly in church was all in attendance so we played for the Saturday evening/Sunday services there. We played pretty well and ended up playing more and more whenever they could fit us in. By the end of our week there it seemed that I'd even been adopted as the drummer with the local worship band. There were a few rehearsals, but more often than not we took the "hit it on the fly" approach with broken spanglish instructions between the bass player and myself. Those guys playing in Peru know how to jam and it was great to play with them--the joint was rockin! We also spent a lot of time working construction on a new church that's being planted in a neighboring town. What existed when we arrived on the scene was the raw metal framework consisting of eight uprights and the cross braces for the thirty foot high roof. The objective was to get this cleaned, primed to seal against rust, and finally painted black. Since everything is dirty and dusty there, before you paint you need to use a pressure washer to clean the surface. This is all well and good, except that there are no pressure washers. We climbed up the uprights with our bare hands and scrubbed every square inch with our "sheep" (cotton wads that were not yet woven into fabric). To make matters more difficult, there was no water involved in this process, so you can only really get it so clean. Once that was "done" (you could barely tell what had been cleaned and what hadn't), it was time to paint rust proof primer over the welded joints. This was done by climbing and then painting the welds with a brush while holding on for dear life with the other hand. The final coat was done with spray paint, but not spray paint as we know it. We had hand pump sprayers that would leak all over and make a huge mess (though some of it would actually spray!) Since this required two hands to operate, we had rope tied around our waists and the upright so that we could freely lean back and spray. The work we did was very hard, tedious, and completely unsafe by American standards, but it had to be done that way and we did it cheerfully (as a general rule). It's another house for the Lord which is now nearer to completion in a place that is so in need. I must say that it was an honor to work on it, even under those conditions. On the last day went far up into the hills to feed some young school children who were very much in need of the fortified milk and bread that we had. Without people supplying and giving this food to them, they would not have had any breakfast. We would be entering a classroom (made in a tent) with a tray of milk & bread and hear them cheerfully chanting, "leche, leche, leche!" The milk (leche in Spanish) that we brought them meant so much to them that some of us were almost crying as we gave it out. The joy that the breakfast brought to them was one of the most beautiful things I've ever witnessed. Materially I would liken Comas Peru to an average thrift store here in the states. There are virtually no "nice" things there, and what's there is dirty, scuffed up, partly broken, and repaired with coat-hanger wire or duct tape. The average American would walk through and find virtually nothing of any value and refer to it as trash, washing their hands as they left the store. However, this is what they have there and it does not adversely affect them at all--they joyfully make do with what they have. They have way less stuff than we do in the states, but they definitely seem to have more joy with what they have. People are people, we're all made in God's image and are of unfathomable value to our Lord. They made it perfectly clear that our stature in this world and our possessions are truly of no eternal value whatsoever. The people we worked with in Peru are some of the most beautiful souls I've ever encountered and I thank them for all of the lessons that I learned there. They were thankful to the point of tears for our time and effort, as well as for us caring enough to invest part of our lives to go there and build the kingdom along side with them. The idea is that we were there to give to them, but I personally feel like I got as much out of it as they did (if not more). The light of Christ will shine through all who know and love Him no matter skin color, rich, poor, beauty, language, etc. I'm thankful that His light is shining brightly in Comas Peru and am honored to have been chosen to go there and help them. Thanks a lot for the prayers and support that allowed me to go out to the ends of the earth! God bless, -Bill 05.27.2005
Southern Aurora’s Spring Camp Corps Directors Camp Notes Day 1: Camp brought the usual first day rain, is it ever dry on the first day of a camp, on the up side there was no tree in the middle of the field, and the tower had grown by 7ft. Rain or no rain, warm ups started at 9:30 as planned! And while the kitchen staff settled in, rehearsal had begun! It never fails to amaze me, how much gets achieved at camps, compared with normal rehearsals, and this camp would prove to be no exception, despite missing a number of Saturday works, and a stray dog that decided to adopt us, real progress was made, and in early evening, when the workers convoy arrived, and the gaps were filled we had a sublime couple of hours, finishing with the ballad, in the night gloom and what a performance! Day 2: After the usual late night, particularly in the staff quarters, Bacon rolls were served at 8, and by 9 the corps was back on the field, day 2 had much better weather and no dog, bonuses all round, add to that, that the whole corps, bar 1, was present and a good day was in prospect, and that’s exactly what we got. Rehearsal started by learning the start of part 2, and by elevenses we had reached our target for the morning, great achievement, and the speed at which some of these young ones now learn new parts is extraordinary, by lunch time the camp tuck shop had run out of red caps! And the kitchen had run out of spaghetti, hotdogs next time! Progress continued and by the end of the day, the staff seemed completely happy, a very rare occurrence! Before camps you have the thought, why put yourself thought it!, afterwards you know why! Exceptional. 05.26.2005

Woelper Loewen Drum & Bugle Corps starts with “Pirates Of The Caribbean“ in Easter Drill Camp! On time one week before Easter drill camp, the traditional yearly start of the outdoor season, Woelper Loewen Drum & Bugle Corps from Neustadt, Germany began their drill design. Meikel Nagel, drill designer, former percussion member and drill instructor of Germany´s most entertaining corps, who lives and works now in Madison, WI spent a great deal of time and ideas on this years show design. Even though Easter was very early this year, the corps was able to start with drill and music on the field. Beginning camp on the evening of Thursday, March 24th, members and staff put their whole energy into the following three full days of rehearsal. During the day time the members were studying the drill and in the evenings their was time to work with the music program. Finally on Sunday evening after numerous runs the corps drill and music instructors were very pleased by the corps performance and commitment. Moreover “it was a great pleasure for Woelper Loewen to work with the all new Dynasty equipment for the first time”, says press agent Udo Merten. After receiving horns and drums earlier this year, the corps took delivery of marimbas and vibraphones last month. The corps board of directors, instructors and members are very proud to be a part of the fast growing family of Dynasty USA and Muremo Europe. Woelper Loewen cannot await to show the Dynasty USA equipment and their fast pace program in stadiums throughout Europe. This year, the corps “Pirates Tour” includes 12 shows which are divided into 7 Contests (Drum Corps Europe, Drum Corps Germany and World Music Contest Kerkrade/Netherlands) and 5 music festivals. This is a large schedule for European standards, if you keep in mind that most of the corps perform their shows only 6-8 times a year on an average! 03.28.2005

GLASSMEN Turn Up Heat Under Silverdome Toledo, OH - The GLASSMEN Drum & Bugle Corps got their feet on the field for the first time this season during their fifth camp this past weekend. The corps began the drill for the 2005 production, after getting a head start on much of the music for the summer and their upcoming Valentine Theatre concert during the last four camps. Ohio is not well-known for it's lovely weather in February, so the corps traveled on the buses up to Michigan's Pontiac Silverdome, where they could rehearse indoors under the protection of the dome. The absence of the turf floor didn't bother them - they laid out a field with tape on the concrete. It may still have been chilly indoors, but the fast-paced drill and high energy of the members and staff kept everyone warm during rehearsal. Seven hours later, the brass and percussion had worked through a majority of the opener drill. The sound of the music reverberating through the empty dome brought back images of summer, playing in a stadium full of thousands of cheering fans. The members had a great time working in the Silverdome. "It really feels like the drum corps season is right around the corner," one of the members said - and it really is! The GLASSMEN will be busy these next few months leading up to the summer with camps, Monte Carlo Fundraisers and the special debut concert at the Valentine Theatre. You can find out more about these and other events at www.glassmen.org. 02.25.2005
