Shawn GlydeDrum Set Bio Shawn began playing drums at a very early age. In elementary school his number one hobby was coming home from school and jamming to music. His schooling in music has consisted of a musical family, private lessons, school jazz band, concert band and marching band, community orchestras, all state honor jazz, drum corps, pop/rock groups, jazz ensembles, and the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles, California. He is an endorsed clinician with Taye Drum Company and Vic Firth Inc. and is in the process of designing a drum set stick for Xtreme Percussion. He has played Zildjian Cymbals his whole life and currently uses DW Pedals and most recently (Jan. '07) signed on as a product endorser with Evans Drumhead Company. As an independent recording artist, Shawn has recorded and engineered 2 solo CDs for Imuso Recording Company. A third disc is currently in the works! Shawn's main focus is creating music in his studio for up and coming projects. His first solo CD, Art Room, consists of a variety of musical styles ranging from jazz to avante guard fusion with a fair share of free form drum solos. His latest work is a contemporary jazz CD titled Alternate Rhythm. Alternate Rhythm is uniquely constructed in that the entire harmonic and melodic content was composed after the final drum tracks were recorded. Music from Alternate Rhythm can currently be heard on XM Satellite Radio. In the spring of 2006 and 2007, Shawn is introducing his series of instructional drum method books, the Drummin' 4/4 Fun! Series and performing music from the Alternate Rhythm CD in and around California. Drumline Bio "Intelligent and dynamic. Constructed with pinpointed accuracy." These are words often used to describe a drum book arranged by Shawn Glyde. His approach to modern percussion writing for both indoor and outdoor competition has led to 100+ international jr. high, high school, university and drum corps drumlines performing his arrangements and compositions every year since 2002. His arranging career began while he was in high school and extended through his years as a snare drummer (3 years), multi-percussionist (1 year), and an instructor for the Concord Blue Devils. He has authored six drum method books, judges for WBA, CVGPC, PCJA and SCPA. Shawn is the percussion/music coordinator for the Clovis West HS marching band and is the marching percussion arranger for Fresno State University (1997-present). In 2005 he founded Drum School. Drum School is a non-competitive, educational, summer activity designed to help students of all ages and levels improve their drumline drumming and marching skills. Recently, Shawn has introduced his originally composed Indoor Marching Percussion shows for nationally competitive drumlines. In 2007, Shawn teamed up with Xtreme Percussion and Vic Firth Inc. to design his original line of marching snare and tenor sticks (available this summer!). Much more to unveil this year! Stay tuned.
